Tomorrow, the boys and I leave the house and head up north. Hubby will be here alone while the movers pack our stuff next week. I'm having some anxiety about it, and I really don't want to give up control of the move to Hubby.
He's not incompetent and he's not stupid, but for some reason, I just want to be here when things are done. I like doing things my way (shocker, I know), and I have a feeling that our bed linens will be used as packing material, and that they won't have been washed before packing, and that my stuff will end up scattered among several boxes while his is neatly packaged... I don't like it. I don't like not being here. I don't like not having a say in how the day is and how we prepared. And I certainly wish I was here in case THC guy shows up, so I could rip that guy a new one!
I suppose this is why I'm alright as a milspouse. I can do things on my own, and a lot of the time, I'd rather do things alone because then it gets done my way. But it's biting me in the butt right now because I really want to know where every little thing in this house is going. I feel like I'm going to be so lost when we get our stuff in WA.
I am thankful that Hubby has a head on his shoulders and that he will take care of our stuff... but he can't even load the dishwasher in an efficient way (if you have a small kitchen, you need to have a system, and since I do just about everything in the kitchen, it's my system)! I know I should stop whining, but I can't possibly be the only person who gets nervous when someone else is responsible for moving house.... right?
... After rereading this, I sound like Monica on Friends.....

Accidental Racism
My kids got some alphabet flashcards along with some DVDs Hubby had bought for them. They love these flashcards. Each letter depicts an action or a noun that starts with that letter, and you can find other words within the picture. For example, here's "S":
It's a snake in a school with a drawing of a spider. Cute, huh? Here's "J":
The J is jumping in a room decorated as a jungle, with a jukebox in the corner and pictures of a jug and a jet. Adorable.
However, I'm totally stumped by "W"....
Other than a small picture of a waffle on the wall, which you can barely see in this pic, I can only come up with one "W" word that describes this picture.
They couldn't possibly have meant..... ??????????

Where've I been?
Why, enjoying my nice, warm house! :)
I know, I've been slacking on the blog, but things are a little crazy around here. We spent last weekend traveling around, seeing people. Saturday was a day in RI to see our good friends near Newport. The boys hadn't met them and we hadn't seen them in about five years, so it was great to catch up. We took in downtown Newport, then saw the mansions on the way back. Of course, the boys weren't too into that- they were more concerned about their Happy Meals. But whatever, they're kids!
Sunday, we took the ferry to LI again to see my fam. They were all disappointed last time when the boys were too sick to come, so I arranged to see them again. Besides, LB really wanted a ride on the ferry. JC wasn't too thrilled about it and clung to me the whole time, but LB was loving how the boat pitched around in the rough weather! Luckily, they behaved so well at the restaurant, and everyone finally got to meet JC. My sister even traveled in from NYC to see the boys again... they really, really, really love her. JC crawled under the table and chairs to get to her. :)
Anyway, so it's been busy around here. I'm still sick. My minor cold, which everyone else seemed to get over, turned into a nasty sinus infection, which then turned into an ear infection. Even though I'm on antibiotics, my face and jaw and ear are throbbing and in so much pain. When I finally went to the doc on Monday, I was in tears. LB said to the doc, "My mommy's ear hurts, so you need to give her medicine to make her feel better." So sweet, I could've squeezed him! They were also very well-behaved in the clinic, so I treated them to those heart-shaped donuts at Dunks. Wow, they were really into those... I may have created a donut monster in LB, ha.
There has been another thing we're dealing with, but it's too early to talk about it yet (no, no babies or anything... please dear God, no babies ever again...). I just don't feel comfortable since I haven't exactly come to terms with it yet. But no worries, we're all doing just fine.
Oh yes, before I forget, Valentine's Day... it was great. Hubby and I decided to not buy each other anything, although I did get him chocolate-covered cherries (which he loves), and he bought me flowers. The flowers may have been a way to sweeten me up, though, because he also brought home news that he's trading in his F150 for an F250. *sigh* Men and their vehicles..... He also did all the cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the boys, which was the best gift! Very much appreciated!
So, sorry I've been missing, but I'm back... kinda. Lots to do before the move. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go blow green shit out of my nose for the millionth time. Healthy thoughts, healthy thoughts!!

Okay, so it just had high cholesterol
Our furnace is not dead, thankfully. It was just so clogged and gross that it stopped functioning properly.
Nasty.
Hubby broke down and called someone. They came to check it out today and some differential pressure pigtail (whatever the hell that is...) was gunked and not working. They cleaned it and checked the rest of the components out, and....
...now we have heat! And enough hot water for me to shave my legs! Woo hoo!
I will stop boring you all with updates on my furnace (really, Larissa? Updates on a furnace? LAME.), but I just wanted to share my good news.

RIP, you worthless SOB
Well, it finally happened. Our furnace kicked the bucket last night. No heat or hot water since about 7pm. Awesome.
It has slowly been becoming less and less capable. It didn't kick on yesterday until 12:30pm. I know it's been a mild winter, but c'mon, it was in the 30s, and our house was 54 degrees. Yuck.
Since we don't have a hot water tank, it's also affected my showering abilities. Since I am sick (oh yes, we all are sick with this snotty, phlegmy head cold), cold showers are out of the question. I think I'm going on four days now. GROSS, I know.
Hubby finally broke down yesterday after I practically begged him to call someone. Here's hoping that they find out what the eff is going on and can fix it, because if this furnace doesn't work properly soon, I'm escaping to my parents' house in NH.

A new low & a new high
The house was 55 degrees this morning.... let me remind you, this is with the heat on... well, supposedly. I don't know what's going on with the heating.
LB is feeling better. He's back to his machine-fighting, evil-destroying, robot-ocotpus-pretending self. JC, however, is miserable, and so am I.
And not only am I sick, but the hot water doesn't seem to last more than four minutes in our shower, so I end up with cold showers. Ah, just what a sick person needs, right?
Fuck, I can't wait to leave this house.
*Hubby is getting the sickness, too, but he seems to just be ornery.
Yesterday was great, though! I took the ferry to Long Island to see my sister & brother, uncle, aunt, and cousins. We skyped with my parents & grandma, which was bittersweet- we all loved talking with Grandma, but it's become apparent that she's deteriorating mentally. It's been especially hard on my mom.
But I loved seeing my family! I had been years since we saw each other. None of us really count my grandfather's funeral, because we were all in an emotional haze, but before that, it was at my cousin's wedding in SC.... LB was three months old! So yeah, been awhile.
They missed Hubby and the boys.... a lot. Only my immediate family has even met JC, so they were bummed that he stayed home sick. I was starting to second guess my decision to keep them home, but Hubby said they had been tired and miserable all day. I'll just have to make the trip back to LI soon.
Now, Aunt T, if we could only see some wonderful pictures that you took of our reunion!! ;)

Milspouse (first) Friday Fill-in #68
1. What is your favorite winter memory?
Watching out my apartment window during a horrendous ice storm, waiting for Hubby, my then-bf, to show up. He had driven from Ohio to NH to see me and it took over 24 hours due to the storm. Any other person would have delayed the trip or turned around, but he made the trek through snow, ice, and sleet to see me. That's love... or stupidity. :)
2. What is your current favorite TV show?
I still love Friends. If reruns are on, I will watch them, even if I've seen them a million times.
3. What was your favorite thing that happened in January?
LB's 4th birthday.
4. What is the best sound in the world to you?
My boys' voices... although some days, silence is the best sound, ha.
5. What is the biggest lesson you have learned as a MilSpouse (or significant other)?
I've learned lots of lessons, but the one that has the most impact is "don't count on anyone but yourself."

Beautiful day
It was 60 degrees here this afternoon... February in New England is never this warm! I opened all the windows to let the fresh air in and had grand plans of taking the boys outside to play, despite LB's sniffling from yesterday. But my plans were thwarted by a 102.3 fever from my big guy.
Although we didn't take in the sunshine and warmth from outside, I still had a wonderful day indoors with my sick boy. JC regressed a bit and took a much-welcomed nap (perhaps he's getting sick, too) while LB and I watched Dora and Team Umizoomi. He's been taking some cold & cough medicine, but still looks pretty peaked. I, however, feel fine and was able to get a ton of laundry done and pay some bills. Not exactly what I had in mind for a warm February day, but it is what it is!
How was your day? Did you have some spring-like weather, too?
