Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

I'm pretty sure I'm watching the reincarnation of Michael Jackson. This kid on Sesame Street is dancing to the Step Forward, Step Backward song, and I swear he moves like MJ.

Facebook is a funny thing. I've caught up with some high school classmates, including several guys I had crushes on. Now I think, what the hell was I thinking?? If I could go back in time, I'd tell my 16 year old self, hey, this guy turns out to be just an average schmo, or a complete loser- you can do better. Everyone in my high school looks so ordinary now- I'd also tell my 16 year old self to be less intimidated by them.

Hubby and I brought out some toys that had been in storage, one of which is a musical turtle. Holy cow, I forgot how loud and annoying it is! Of course, it's all they want to play with.

Hubby and I also brought out some clothes we had in storage. He has three large bins of clothes- I have one medium bin. What's wrong with this picture?? I seriously need to go clothes shopping. Anyone want to come with me?

I bought mojito mixings yesterday, so Hubby and I decided to indulge in one... then two... then three... next thing I know, half the bottle of rum is gone and we're totally tipsy. :) Oops.

LB has a big Spongebob Squarepants bandaid on his forehead. I'm worried that his boo-boo will scar, but at the same time, he looks so incredibly cute!

In a related note, as much as my kids drive me to the point of insanity every single day, I think they are the most adorable kids on the entire planet.

No matter how many times I see this, I can't stop laughing!

A day of being together

Yesterday was a nice little perfect day. Hubby and I took the boys to Dinosaur Day at the local museum of natural history. LB won a sand dollar fossil and made a necklace (okay, he didn't make it... he was supposed to, but he wasn't about to sit still to do it, so one of the volunteers gave him one she made). We walked around the museum and saw lots of local animals- they have a HUGE bird exhibit. Then we explored the outside gardens. A little boy tried to feed JC rocks, which was cute, and LB liked climbing on rocks.

After the museum, we walked around downtown PG, looking at the architecture and the ocean. We got a bite to eat at this great restaurant. They have lots of different cuisine from Europe, but mostly italian food. The boys were so well behaved! They flirted with the little old lady behind us and danced to the Frank Sinatra they had playing. After dinner, we stopped at Pier 1, then came home.

It was a really good day. Hubby and I have nicer cool weather clothes, and it was only 61 degrees, so we were both dressed in our good clothes and the boys looked really cute. I think the mojito helped, too. :)

Our weekends are usually running around doing errands, or working on things around the house, or doing our own thing, so it was relaxing to just chill out and enjoy each other's company.

Honey Mustard Salmon

As promised, here's another Friday recipe. This one comes from Cook This, Not That. Hubby has given it the seal of approval, and despite my distaste for honey-mustard anything, I really enjoyed it, too. The honey-mustard flavor is wicked mellow and blends well with the taste of the salmon. Also, it's really fast to make! Oh, and if you don't want to fire up the oven (I mean, who does on a hot day?), you can keep it in the skillet until it's done on medium low heat. I have no idea how long it will take- somewhere between one minute and one hour. :P

Ingredients:

1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)

How To:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine the butter and brown sugar in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds, until the butter and sugar have melted together. Stir in the mustard, honey, and soy sauce.

Heat the oil in an ovenproof skillet over high heat. Season the salmon with salt and pepper and add to the pan flesh-side down. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until fully browned and flip. Brush with half of the glaze and place the pan in the oven until the salmon is firm and flaky (but before the white fat begins to form on the surface), about 5 minutes. Remove, brush the salmon with more glaze, and serve.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in #10

1.What secret indulgence do you act on while your spouse is away?
Well, since being married, I've been pregnant on most of his deployments, so I indulged in a lot! :) But if I wasn't preggers, I'd still probably indulge in some chocolate and a few spa treatments.

2.If you were a spice, what would you be?
I hope I don't step on anyone's toes, but I hate these questions, "if you were a *blank*, what would you be". I'm not something else, I'm a human, so I have no idea. But I guess if I had to answer, I'd say cayenne pepper, because it's fiery.

3.Where do you go for support when your significant other is deployed?
Home to NH. I know, you're not supposed to "run home" every time your spouse is deployed, but since I don't work, I can spend a huge amount of time with our families so they can spend a huge amount of time with the boys. We never live close to our families, so it's important to me that the boys spend as much time with them as they can.

4.What is the oldest thing you own?
Some of my jewelry is old.

5.How did you vision your future pre-military?
I didn't. I've always had bfs in the military or that have joined after we've dated. I guess I'm just attracted to that kind of guy, so I always figured I'd end up marrying one! But Hubby likes to joke that if we'd never met, I'd be married to some Ivy League, country club a$$hole. :)

Biggest Pet Peeve- STUPIDITY

For the third time this month, someone took one of our trash cans. Really! Our large one has our street number painted on it, and the two recycling bins are the only blue ones around. First, it was our trash bin, then one of our recycling bins went missing completely, now that bin has been "replaced" with a smaller, broken bin.

Really, how does a person pick up something that's not theirs and think to themself, "Oh yes, this is mine, I remember putting it there!" Who does that??? I'll tell you- really, really, really stupid f***ing people.

Today was trash day. I did some recon earlier this week and didn't see any blue recycling bins in any of our neighbors' yards. Yet somehow, this morning, it reappears, and it still isn't ours! I took the broken bin anyway. We need our recycling bins because we go through a lot of recyclable stuff.

But that doesn't mean I'm surrendering to you, Recycling Bin Thief!!!!!

Hubby has talked about installed a security camera at the end of our driveway, and I'm all for it. I want to find out who this f***er is. I have a pretty good idea- the old bitchy lady who lives at the end of our driveway doesn't give a sh!t about anything. She keeps feeding the wild animals, even after Animal Control has told her not to. And yes, this is the same bitch who called Animal Control on us when we had Puppy.

I swear, I'm ready to put a f***ing bag of poop on her doorstep and light it.

Okay, so I'm not positive it's her, but I'm just so pissed off about this! And it doesn't help that LB is giving me two year old attitude and JC wants to be held 24/7 (not all that easy with a fracture). Hubby has the day off, but he took off north on a motorcycle ride. He's still studying tomorrow, then wants the whole day Saturday to do errands. That leaves Sunday for me to get out by myself, but that's Dinosaur Day at the museum, and I really think the boys would like that.

*sigh* Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, just feeling very, very, very frustrated right now! Especially with stupid people!!!!

Navy ladies giveaway!

I'm doing this the super-duper lazy way, but hey, it's 103 degrees inside my house, so whatever. :P

Miss Brittney from "A Day In The Life Of A Navy Wife" is hosting a giveaway for all Navy wives and SOs! And because I think it's cute and I want it, I'm letting you all know to up my chances of getting one. You can find the details and pics on her blog.

Sorry if you're not a Navy wife. Maybe I'll give something away for all my readers... a two year old, perhaps? ;) Just kidding.... I think.

No really, stay tuned- I'm feeling generous.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!!!!!!!!!

It seems a little early in JC's short life of 11 months to give up naps. Then again, he's never been much of a sleeper. Eating, however, is his forte.

I get creeped out living here sometimes. I feel like I'm being watched... or preyed upon.

To dye or not to dye? I've been thinking- if I dye my hair to cover up any gray (which, apparently, is fast approaching), then I'll have to dye my hair forever, or eventually decide to stop doing it when I'm really old and risk the skunk look for a few years. Or, I could just not dye it at all and let my hair naturally turn gray, but there will be a long period of just having gray streaks and not all gray hair. Hm.

Yay, Miss Mexico is Miss Universe! I was rooting for her the whole way. And, is it just me, or did Miss Guatemala look like an uber-bitch?

Today is supposed to be another hot day (a whole 85 degrees!!... yes, I'm being sarcastic), so I need to think of something to do. The only thing I need to do is run to the commissary... but that may mean coming home with ice cream and bacon and chocolate and pizza sauce...

After seeing a Shirley Temple commercial, LB now says "Oh my goodness!" just like she said it. It's very eerie to hear him sound just like her. Maybe I should enroll him in tap dancing.... Nah.

Here's what I have to say about the great big Fat Debate. If you are too heavy for the chairs at a nail salon, then go somewhere else or pay the surcharge. Don't blame the company for trying to compensate for chairs that are broken due to heavy people- they're just trying to stay in business! Blame yourself for your weight. Listen, I'm sick of extremely overweight people wanting to be treated like they aren't. They require more room, more fabric, more everything. And if they don't pay for it, the rest of us do with higher prices. Btw, I'm talking about very obese people, like Biggest-Loser-contestant-sized, not ALL overweight people.

Hm, this isn't so much random as me just bitching. Stop by The Unmom for more (probably better) posts.
