Yes, I'm posting twice in one day, despite my crazy busy, boring daily life. I'm actually just shirking my chores to do while the little ones are asleep.
I got invited to something on Facebook. Invitations are nice- they make me feel like people think about me. It's very sweet to get an invitation to a bday party or something, even if I know I can't make it.
But this particular invitation was to "like" a page. And it was from someone who I hadn't seen or spoke to in over 7 years. I'm slightly guilty here- I was the one who friend-requested him. In hindsight, I should have just sent a message saying hello instead of the request. Now I'm stuck with his mass-invites to crap I don't care about.
After very careful consideration, I had to recently delete an artist friend of mine. I liked him very much and I think he's very talented, but the constant invites to shows and galleries, plus the million posts about him being on the radio and stuff, got to be annoying. I hadn't heard anything from him since college, and even after becoming FB friends, no wall posts or messages or even a simple hello.
So I made a decision. I will be deleting friends who do any of the following:
1. Mass-invite me to events when I haven't spoken to them in years. I won't delete all mass-invite people- just the ones that only mass-invite me. I didn't become a FB friend just to boost someone's fan base.
2. Invite me to take a quiz... and another... and another... and another. One thoughtfully chosen quiz is fine, I won't get annoyed by that. But asking me to take a quiz about which Twilight character I am, and which Twilight movie I like best, and which vampire movie is best, and who would play me in a movie about vampires (get the point?) is a little nuts.
3. TMI updates. I like to know what people are up to, but I don't like to know everything they are up to. So if you post about your sex life, or your annual exam, or the fight you are in with your significant other (who also happens to be friends with me, and responds to your post, and you two are duking it out on my homepage), you're getting the ax.
4. Minute-by-minute updaters. Again, I'm interested in what people are up to, but not that interested. Besides, isn't that what Twitter is for? I don't really want to know that you got up this morning, then did laundry, then ate cereal, and now are starting to get to work on the backyard. Then several hours later that you are sweating on a hot day and cooking some dinner, then chilling out with your husband in your hot tub. Seriously, if you update more than once a day (unless it's something very big), it's too much.
*****Addition: Anyone one on the east coast that ruins the ending of a season of American Idol or Biggest Loser, etc. Thanks a lot, guys.

More random thoughts
I just couldn't come up with a cohesive post, so here are some more random things.
So, my job doesn't come with sick days or personal days, especially since I have no grandma or grandpa or aunt or uncle to hand the kids to. I'd really like to take one today since I'm physically feeling like crap (hello, black stretchy pants), which is affecting my mental state. See previous post about the vicious cycle.
The weather is also pissing me off. I left HI thinking that I'd finally get the change of seasons, but it's not exactly the change I was looking for. It's late May and still only 50s and 60s. Where's summer? Even though it's HHH in NH, I kinda miss it.
My friend GA landed an awesome job last month and has been loving it. I'm so happy for her! Being happy with your career can make everything better (the opposite is true, too- being unhappy with your job can affect everything else in your life negatively), so I'm glad she's found her dream job.
Today might be a day of cartoons for the kids. They were both awake before my alarm went off at 5am- ugh. Seriously, my job starts at the crack of dawn and doesn't end until 7 or 8pm... who else has a workday like that? Well, fast attack submariners, so Hubby can relate! And, it seems like every day is the same. Wake up, change the boys, feed them breakfast, play with toys and clean the kitchen, watch Sesame Street, play some more (or do errands), have lunch, play for a little bit, naptime at 2pm, play some more, dinner, bath time, get into pjs, brush teeth, go to bed. Seems simple, but in between all that, I'm doing laundry, changing diapers, playing referee, etc. I usually start something then get interrupted when LB hits JC, so I have a bunch of half-finished stuff left to do by the time the boys go to bed.
I don't know why I'm complaining about all that. I knew that's what would happen when we had kids. I guess I'm just needing a change of pace or something. I hate to say it, but sometimes I'm completely bored being at home all the time. Yes, the boys are adorable and I love getting to spend time with them, but I'm spending A LOT of time with them, and it's very kid-friendly. You know, loud & simple conversations, bright primary colors, sticky hands... I'm just over-saturated with kid stuff.
I guess I'm just in a mood because of all that. The SAHM thing, the vicious cycle of working out and pain, the weather, the daily routine... *sigh* I suppose it could be worse, right? I mean, there are lots of good stuff going on. Good marriage, healthy family, financially stable, reliable transportation, big trip to look forward to this winter... maybe I'll make some chocolate chip cookies. That makes any day a little sunnier. :)

Random Tuesday Thoughts
The Biggest Loser finale is tonight, so there's no chance I'll be blogging or doing anything else online. I'm rooting for Michael, but I think for the home prize, Sunshine will probably take it. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is seeing the red team again. Ugh.
It's nap time right now- much needed. Not as bad as yesterday, but there are only so many times I can say "Stop hitting" before I lose my mind.
Dear Carmel Valley old people: You bought a Maserati to do 10mph under the speed limit? How about you trade cars with me. You can putt around in my '05 Chevy Malibu and I'll tear it up in your sports car, m'kay?
If I'm damned if I do, and I'm damned if I don't, then why should I give a crap any more?
I'm craving a Hershey's bar and a Coke.
Paging summer... where are you, summer??.... I thought I was in California... in May...
I still haven't gotten the x-ray done. I can't bring the kids, so I need Hubby to be here for them. Which will probably be Friday.
There are three registered sex offenders in Carmel Valley. Two of them live within a mile from our house. And these are only the people that have been caught (yes, I'm cynical). F*CK.
Both boys have been "napping" for an hour now, and have been crying the whole time. Sheesh.
Ford brought back the Fiesta?? WTF?? I envision the crappy little cars from the 80s.

Just an update
The spa was GREAT. Oh man, I could get a facial and massage every day... I fell asleep twice, oops. :)
LB got a haircut. It wasn't the usual grueling ordeal, which was nice. Thank you, LB.
*Don't confuse my general happy mood with my real mood. Here comes the nastiness I'm feeling right now.
Right now, he's sitting next to JC, eating out of a huge econo-bag of craisins. Cute, until he pushes his brother in the face and makes him cry. It's been like that all morning.
LB totally has eczema on his feet. The fungus creams wouldn't work because (surprise, surprise), it wasn't a fungus. The hydrocortisone works well. Hubby asked me why I didn't try that earlier, and I could have punched him. I get shit for not listening to the doc, then when I do, I still get shit. WTF?
Doc ordered an x-ray for my pelvis. No referral yet, bummer. But at least this is a step in the right direction. I ran over the weekend for a workout and it felt horrible. Now I'm kinda regretting it... but I don't want to not workout because I'm in pain... it's a circle that's pissing me off. I want to exercise, but when I do, I'm in pain so I feel crappy, but when I don't, I feel like an overweight slob and still feel crappy.
Holy shit, this has been a terrible morning. JC won't stop crying unless I pick him up, then he wants to be let down, then cries again. I sliced my hand open on the food processor blade that somebody put in the dishwasher upside down on the bottom (in kid reach, mind you). And LB has been sent to his room three times already for hitting and pushing his brother... and it's only 9:20am.

Eh
I tried to come up with a witty post tonight. For some reason, I feel compelled to blog, but can't think of something great. So here's some random stuff.
LB has his own vocabulary, which is cool. Anything that doesn't work, like burned out lightbulbs, just needs new "barraries" (batteries). And houseflies are not houseflies; they are "bufferfies" (butterflies).
JC is crawling better. He's still so lazy about stuff- he's content to make me push his knees, although I know he can do it on his own. He will let his hands slip from the bottle so he doesn't have to hold it. What a little punk. :P
My friend who had the baby pass away let us in on a little information. If you have Tricare (and every military family does), and a family member passes away, the insurance company will cover nothing after the time of death, including autopsy, labs, and genetic testing. That is for the grieving family to shoulder. Doesn't seem fair. Doesn't seem morally right. She was told to "contact her congressman"; you better believe I'll be contacting mine, and if you feel the urge, contact yours, too.
I'll be seeing my doc tomorrow to try and get a referral for a pelvic specialist. I can't even take the trash out without lots of pain (like this morning), and it's getting frustrating. I thought with exercise, I'd feel better by now. Hopefully this works out and I get some answers.
LB also has an appointment. His poor feet have been in terrible shape for over a year now. Every doc says it's foot fungus, but the meds have not been working. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to bother him, but it definitely bothers me. Poor kid.
I have a friend who was recently hospitalized and now needs to supplement with infant formula. I told her what we have used, but the people who commented after me were insisting that she stick it out with the breastfeeding and try to replenish her supply. Okay, if she wants to do that, great... but she asked for formula advice, not a guilt trip. I felt bad for her- I was also pressured to breastfeed, but when it came down to it, my baby's health was more important than my ego. And truthfully, I don't feel less of a mother for doing it. I feel like a better mom for putting the needs of my infant over my unfounded needs to be like everyone else. All of you "breast is best" hippies who look down on people who use formula: suck it.
Day spa Saturday at 2pm... of course, if they remember I'm coming. :P
LB needs a haircut BAD. Tomorrow might be the day, if he's in a good mood.

A quick post about love
Love is:
...listening to an album you haven't listened to since high school, then finding out that your hubby has been listening to the exact same one on his commute that day, and you both have the same song stuck in your head.
...watching LB & JC play together. JC was hanging out in his doorway jumper, and LB was twirling him around. Too cute.
...knowing my mom knows me so well and laughing at the same crazy stuff. I miss her!
...having a friend that will drop everything and come to visit to celebrate our birthdays, even when it coincides with the craziness of leaving one job and starting another.
...chocolate. Don't argue me on this one.
...the moments that reaffirm my mama abilities. My two year old knows the difference between right and left. I'm still learning that one.
...looking at my boys and wondering if it's possible that they could get any cuter.
...roses and chocolate on the first day of a long-awaited kick-ass job. M, you're a pretty awesome hubs!
...(you fill in the blank)

I thought it was three strikes and you're out.
Well, Hubby and I have been batting 1,000 today. Sorry for the baseball references- I'm not sure how sucking is compared to baseball, but whatever.
LB was a terror today. He threw a calculator. He hit JC in the head with a Magnadoodle and refused to apologize. He jammed my checkbook into the paper shredder. Yeah, and that was all before 10am.
Where was Hubby, you ask? He was at Habitat for Humanity. It's been so great for him- he says he's learning a lot and since he's a young guy, he's really getting his hands dirty doing it. So Saturday mornings are usually just me.
Today, he came home early, which was very welcome by me. I had an appointment for a day spa to finally get that facial and massage Hubby bought me for my bday. I arrived at the spa early, only to be told that the receptionist remembers speaking with me over the phone, but for some reason didn't put me into the schedule- oopsie.
This was the straw that broke the camel's back. I've been trying all day to stay positive, but that just pissed me off. What is it about me that people think "oh, she doesn't matter" (I'm speaking very generally- I know not everyone thinks that)? It never fails. When I speak with someone over the phone and make a reservation or appointment or whatever, either my reservation was lost or they simply forgot to pencil me in or whatever the reason.
After that, I just gave up. And I'm glad I did. Hubby and I didn't want to cook, so we thought about what to get. The taqueria was closed (on a Saturday... wtf??). The fish place was closed. So we decided on the Australian deli. They make great lamb burgers. Anyway, I drove into mid-valley, and it too was closed.
Of course it was.
Because that's just the kinda day I had.
And it gets better! I ended up at Safeway, getting sandwiches at their deli. Hubby had wanted a tri-tip sandwich from the Australian place, which Safeway had on the menu, but didn't have the ingredients, so I got him a chicken one because it came with artichokes... which the guy informed me they were out of, while he was putting the sandwich together.
Haha. Of course.
So, it's just been one of those days where I can't win. Here's hoping that tomorrow is a little better. :P

Pinch me, I must be dreaming again.
I prepared a nice, healthy lunch today- turkey & avocado sandwich with an apple. I turned my back for one minute to get some juice, and when I turned back, my apple was missing. WTF? I looked around and saw LB had taken it. I was about to berate him when I realized he was eating it.
Holy crap. I didn't make a huge deal out of it, even though I was having a friggin party in my head. I mean, an apple! Not a cracker or cookie or something equally nutritionally void. It blew my mind. Then he said something that made complete sense: "Cookie crunch. Cookie crunch."
We saw an episode of Sesame Street recently where Cookie Monster was following the sound of a cookie crunch. It turned out to be Elmo eating an apple, which makes a crunchy sound like a cookie. Elmo was having a great time with that apple and LB was watching very intently. He must have been learning that apples are yummy, so when he saw mine, he just grabbed it and started munching.
I'm friggin ecstatic. Now if only Elmo would show LB how yummy vegetables can be.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
I don't know what everyone else thought, but having Betty White host SNL was pretty entertaining.
Feeling very Cro-Magnon about my looks right now.
My weight hasn't budged since ending the Pound for Pound Challenge... probably because my ass also hasn't budged (much).
During the course of a week, I'll have thoughts or epiphanies to which I think, "that's so going in my Tuesday blog", but then I forget them.
I videotaped LB dancing in the car and put it on YouTube. The quality is very choppy compared to the original, but it's still really cute. ... uhhh, I had a point... crap.
I made apple pie last night. Hubby had canned some cinnamon apples, which were perfect for it. Martha Stewart's pie crust recipe was outstanding, and it turned out to be probably the best apple pie I've ever made. Mmmmmmmmmm.
I know it's over a year away, but I've been checking out houses to rent in CT for when we move there. So stupid, considering we live someplace great right now! But I guess I just got in the habit during deployment.
Wow, naptime is soooo not happening. I'm debating whether I should just keep them in their room to allow for some Mommy-only time or if I should let them out. Hm. Mommy-time wins.
After seeing the Mom Jeans commercial from SNL (I don't know what it is with me and SNL lately), I've decided I'm ready for my mom jeans. After all, as each day passes, I'm feeling less like a woman and more like someone's mom. May as well complete the package, right? ;) I'm just kidding, but only about the jeans.
After a very brief positive look toward one of my friendships, I've concluded that nothing has changed and I may as well stop trying. Sucks.
I wish my milk and cookies was a beer and pizza. Or margarita and tacos.
I've been on a mexican food kick lately. Maybe it's because I'm living in a place that has good mexican everywhere.
Two words: Up-giddy. :D

Happy anniversary to us!
Today is Hubby and my six year wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe that it's gone by so quickly- it feels like it JUST happened. But when you think that our flowergirl was three and will now be turning ten, and that we now have two children, it makes sense. It just feels like it went by so fast!
I remember getting into my wedding dress that day. My mom was teary-eyed. I had my hair all done up and my nails done. My bridesmaids helped me with my dress and getting my shoes on. The limo had a red carpet and my parents and I posed for pictures just before getting into the car. The ride was short, but just enough time to get really excited.
As I was waiting to walk down the aisle with my dad, he got all teary-eyed, too. I can't remember the last time I'd ever seen my dad cry. Strangely, it made me all misty, too. But fortunately we pulled it together before walking down that aisle. And once we arrived to Hubby, my dad said, "She's all yours!"
I don't remember the music I had hand-picked. The candle wouldn't light because of a light breeze. I barely remember our vows. But I do remember exchanging the rings and finally getting to kiss Hubby as his wife. The ceremony was short, but to the point. Our reception was also a little bit of a blur, but I remember feeling so happy that the people I cared about most in the world all came together in one room (finally!) to share our special day.
It's funny- out of all that (the dress, the ceremony, the limo, the reception), the thing I remember most is climbing into our rinky-dink Ford Focus and driving down to Boston to spend the night. That's exactly why I got married- not to get all dressy and say special vows in front of everyone. I got married to spend the mundane time with Hubby. That's what I love most about us, how we can just hang out and do anything together and have fun. I don't need a special veil and a plate of fancy wedding cake. All I really need is him. And after everything we've gone through these past six years, the one thing that has stayed the same is us.
Happy anniversary, Hubby!!

What do I say?
Okay english majors, I'm asking for your help. I'm not the best with words, as evident in my erratic and random postings, but I don't know what to say in this situation.
My friend's baby passed away today. He was very sick and went through a lot in his short life of 6 months. How in the world do you express sympathy for this? I have no clue how to word it and what to say. I haven't gone through this (not exactly), so I'm at a loss about what to say.
My friend is doing well, on the surface and long-distance (they're in VA Beach). She is a tough chick and appears to be taking it well, as well as a mommy possibly could. And I don't want to bug her with phone calls- obviously, they'll be busy in the next week and probably won't want to talk. So I'm left with email and messages, which (thankfully) I can edit and prepare for. But still not sure what to say.
*sigh* It shocked the hell outta me and I haven't been able to stop thinking of them all night. I can't imagine going through that... That would be my biggest nightmare, to lose one of the boys.

Swimsuits, losers, & playdates... oh my.
Sooo, swimsuit season. Not a fan. Never was. And it doesn't help that now I have many more flaws to cover up.
But I went shopping anyway. Had GA on the phone for virtual moral support. I decided to get an athletic one vs a fashion-y one, because I really will be swimming more for exercise and won't be laying around a pool or beach. The local athletic store had Speedos for less than $40 each- awesome deal! So I bought one of those.
The trying-on process was murderous, though. I originally thought I was one size and was pleased to see I was right. Then I tried on different styles in the same size, and they were way too small. Huh. So I checked the size of the first one I had tried on. It was marked wrong and was actually a size bigger. Bummer. So I'm a little larger than I thought, which really sucks, but I did manage to find one that doesn't make me look like a big muumuu.
By the way, if this is baby weight, then how come I have back fat? I mean, I didn't carry the boy in the back. Dammit.
Just to add insult to injury, I watched the Biggest Loser last night. It was makeover week, and everyone looked good- some even looked a decade younger. But at the end of the show, they revealed that Sam and Stephanie were living together. WTF?? Didn't see that one coming. She's kind of bitchy, and he's so laidback. Anyway, the show gave me motivation to work out this morning.
Five o'clock in the AM. Yeesh. Tough, but necessary if I want to push my body back into those pre-pregnancy clothes (and swimsuits!). I also took the boys to the park today and met up with a friend of mine and her daughter. We let the kids play around, then headed to lunch. LB actually ate what I ordered for him, which were essentially chicken nuggets, but prepared like how I make them, not like McD's. It was nice to get out with someone who also says "sit down" every ten seconds and understands that just because I'm picking my kid's hands out of my water glass doesn't mean I'm not listening. :) It was a good time, then we ran a few errands before heading home.
Tonight, since it's Cinco de Mayo (and because we're SOOOOOO mexican), I'm making chicken fajitas. I was planning on making horchata, which is this mexican rice drink- I recommend trying it if you can find it at a restaurant or something. So yummy! But I'm rethinking it because it involves a lot of work. Hm. Maybe I'll try. But I'm not promising anything.
Hopefully, tonight's meal won't completely undo the squats and lunges I did this morning. Gotta fit into that damn swimsuit!
PS- This poison oak is killing me!

Hello May, sleeplessness, and romance
Where did April go?? I felt like this month just flew by. May will be relatively quiet for us, finally. Our anniversary is coming up, but that's it for big days. June & July will be busy- we have to register our cars, and there are a lot of birthdays those months. So I'm glad we get a little down time this month before the craziness of the summer.
Since GA & my birthday weekend, I've just been bumming around here. The most eventful thing I've done is go to Costco, ha. But I don't mind. I like having down time, especially since the boys wake up so damn early. They go to bed around 7:30pm, but Hubby and I like our adult time after bed time, and we're usually up way past our own bed time.
It's a little crazy, this whole parenting thing. With jobs, we could leave them on the weekends and devote our time and energy to each other (except being on a boat...), but with the kids, it's a 24/7 job, which means the whole marriage thing has taken a backseat. Not good. But we're trying to carve out time together, even if it means being really tired the next day... and the next... and the next! Maybe when the kids move out in 20 years, we'll have some of that time back. :P
Perhaps this month will be the month of movie rentals, early bedtimes, and being romantic. After all, that's what started this whole parenting thing, right? It's a little tough considering Hubby's work schedule and volunteer work and weekend interests. We don't get a lot of time all together, let alone time just the two of us. But I guess the only thing we can do is try, right?
So, be prepared for May, the month of mushiness and insomnia.
