My weekend was fantastic, how was yours?

This past Friday, I cashed in on my bday massage (thank you, bro & sis!).  I got a coconut balm one, which was supposed to be therapeutic and healing and blah blah blah.  It was really the guy that massaged me that made the difference!  I had him before, and he's really strong.  Plus, he worked out all those mommy knots in my upper back- moms, you know what I mean.

We also had some friends of Hubby's over.  They're from Germany, and the husband is studying with Hubby at NPS.  They had a little boy about LB's age, and what a friggin difference... I always knew my kids were a little crazy, a little rambunctious, a tiny bit off-the-wall, but I didn't realize how much so until this little boy came over.  He ate salmon and asparagus (wtf???).  He played nicely and didn't hit.  And he was a little shy at first.  So not like my kids in any way.

Anyway, Saturday was low-key, but Hubby gave me some Mother's Day / Anniversary presents- two dresses and an outfit, all from Ralph Lauren.  He knows all about my addiction to RL and happily feeds it, haha.  Anyway, they're beautiful, and they fit me so well (bonus- everything was a size 8, hooray!!!).  I felt so friggin awesome that I wore one of the dresses yesterday, even though I was freezing my a$$ off.

Mother's Day was also low-key.  It also happened to be our anniversary.  Woo hoo, seven years!  We went out for pizza (romantic, I know), then took the kids to see Rio.  It was a good movie, slightly cheezy in some parts, but all kids movies are, right?

So there you have it.  That was my weekend!  This coming weekend, Hubby will be on a camping trip with some buddies, but if everything works out, I'll be taking the kids to an amusement park with some friends.  I hope you all had good Mother's Days and/or weekends!

Random thoughts on this hot Wednesday

It reached 92 degrees here.  Holy moly, that was unexpected, and hella hot!  I didn't exactly dress the part, since yesterday was in the 60s.  But at least I got my errands done in style.

So, I went to Costco and got my entire order for free today.  And, they even gave me $4 in change back.  Thank you, reimbursement for our membership!  I stocked up on all the kid essentials: Goldfish, fruit snacks, and gummy omega-3 chews.

I went to Safeway to get a few items and was a little disappointed.  They charged me for 3 avocados, not two, which overcharged me by $2.  Also, even though I handed a paper coupon to the cashier, they didn't process it for the frozen waffles.  I ended up paying twice as much for that.  Booooo.  But on the upside, I saved $20.63.

I think I've been watching too much Extreme Couponing....

I saw my elderly neighbor in the grocery store and said hi.  She called me Eddie.  That's not anywhere close to my real name.  It isn't even a girl's name (not traditionally, although if you've watched Ab Fab, you know it can be really chic for a girl).  But this is coming from a woman who has named all the wild deer in our neighborhood and calls them by name.  Okaaaay....

Moving pre-inspection on the 10th, and the movers come get our stuff June 23!  Hooray!  Hopefully, they will be more competent than these people (read chapter two).

I've been fighting a cold for over a week now, coupled with horrible allergies.  I'm just a snotty, sniffling, sneezy mess.  Now the boys have the cold, so their snot is all over my clothes.  I guess that's just a side effect of being home with sick kids, but it's really gross to pull a stringy, goopy booger off my pant leg.

Dear Mariah Carey, Congrats on your twins!  However, you do realize that Moroccan is an ethnic description and not actually a name, right?... Right??....

I'm sweaty and my kitchen is a mess.  Gotta go clean it.  Thanks for sticking with my ramblings!  Leave some incoherentness in my comments.

I spoke too early; happiness begins with an "o" and rhymes with "schmosama bin laden is finally dead"

I'm happy.  I know it's not very nice of me to be happy that a person is dead, but I believe this is an exception.  That insane, sadistic, horrible man has been removed from humanity (although I question if he was ever a part of humanity to begin with) and I couldn't be more ecstatic.

Hooray for the Navy Seals!  Hooray for the CIA, especially Leon Panetta!  Hooray for every serviceman/woman who has been deployed in this war, working toward this particular goal!  Hooray for us!

Okay, now that the celebrating has been done, it's time to focus on the outcome.  Yes, it's wonderful he's gone, but believe it or not, there are some crazy people out there who backed him up and believed in him.  Those people are not gone.  They are still threats.  And they will still try to carry out bin Laden's vision because they truly believe in what he was telling them.

Keep supporting the war and the troops!  It's not for naught.

Happiness begins with an "o" and rhymes with schmorders.

We got orders.  Finally!  And only less than two months away from graduation!  (Orders, for my civilian friends, are papers stating that we are to be stationed at a certain place by a certain time.  Without them, it's impossible to plan a move.)

We are leaving CA this June after graduation and driving across the country to CT.  Hubby starts school there in September, and we will leave CT around March next year.

The amount of moving we do is just so damn ridiculous, but I'm looking forward to being closer to family and friends on the east coast, especially because of the boys.  I want them to know their families well.  It's tough to do that being on the west coast for all their lives!

So let the countdown, planning, and house hunting begin!  Woo hoo!!

  1. Have you and your spouse agreed to live in separate locations (a geographical bachelor tour) knowing that the short-term inconvenience would have long-term benefits for your family? How did it work for you? submitted by When Good People Get Together
For a short time while I was pregnant with our first boy, I lived in Hawaii by myself while he was on the boat, transiting from Virginia to Pearl Harbor.  It was a little nerve-wracking to be in a brand new place by myself while pregnant without knowing neighbors or even the other wives, but it worked because I have big girl panties.  Yes, I said that.

  2. What is your favorite thing about being a MilSpouse? submitted by Sarah Ruth Today
I have no idea.  There are many plusses, but I can't think of my absolute favorite thing.

  3. If you could still have your spouse/significant other and your family, but take the military life out of it…would you?  submitted by Trust. Love. Believe. Bake.
Yes.  We are counting down the days!!  Have my husband home and not face long deployments and have a choice in health care?  Sign me up!  (Don't get me wrong- the military has been very good to us, and I'm very thankful, but it will be nice when he's retired)

  4. What have your homecoming experiences been like after a year long tour of separation? submitted by Army Soldier, Army Wife
Fortunately, we have never been separated for a year due to deployment.  We've gone over a year between seeing each other because I was in school, but seeing each other after being apart for so long was always fun, wink wink.

  5. If you have a child(ren) why you chose their name(s)? If not, why you would name your child something?  submitted by Tiara’s & ACU’s
Our oldest was named after family, and our youngest's middle name is after my father.  His first name was a name we both liked.

I'm just allergic to everything

After trying nearly everything under the sun to help my allergies, I saw something at Walmart that I hadn't tried before.  So I bought a box of Alavert.  It promised 24 hour non-drowsy relief from allergy symptoms.

After I took it, my sneezing and itchy throat ceased.... for about ten minutes.  Then, as usual, my body said, "Ha, nice try, I don't think so" and I began sneezing once again.  Several hours later, I'm sitting here with my symptoms as bad as they always are, as if I hadn't taken a single thing.

You know, it doesn't surprise me.  I've tried Allegra, Claritin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, Advil Allergy, ChlorTrimeton, etc.  Nothing besides Benadryl works, and that stuff puts me out.  I took some on Friday- thank god Hubby was home because I fell asleep from 1pm to 4pm!!  So if I want to be conscious and able to function, I won't take Benadryl.

I suppose it would help if I knew what I was allergic to.  I know that grass pollen does it for me.  So does tree pollen, so pretty much anything green that grows outside.  Yeah, that sucks.  Fortunately, I don't have any food allergies, but I am allergic to pregnancy hormones, apparently.  Oh, and sunscreen... yeah, that sucks, too.  Oh, and most over-the-counter facial moisturizers (btw, the Clinique line is awesome, I love it).

Anyway, it doesn't matter at this point what makes me sneeze or drip from my nose or burn my skin or whatever.  What matters is I'm friggin sick of it!!  Does anyone have any advice or know of anything that I haven't tried??  I'm getting desperate.  Snotty, sniffling, watery eyes desperate.  Help!

  1. How many pets do you have? And what type? submitted by Life and Times of a Displaced Jersey Girl
We have zero.  :(  I love dogs, but with all the moving we do (which is a lot, even by military standards), I simply can't do that to an animal.
  2. What are your favorite projects to do while hubby is away? submitted by my-inspired-nest
Bake buns in my oven.  That seems to be the trend with us!  :)  But my other hobbies to do while he's deployed are playing in community bands, work on his scrapbook, and bake (food, not little buns).
  3. What are the must-haves in your deployment care packages?  submitted by Christine’s Little Blog
Chocolate and candy.  That seems to be the only stuff Hubby wants in his halfway night box.  We a friend who is in Baghdad right now, and we sent him stuff like sunscreen, magazines, and his favorite candy bars.

  4. If you could star in any TV show, which would it be? submitted by Just a Girl
The Big Bang Theory, because I'm sooooo a geek, and that would probably be the most realistic show I could be involved with!
  5. What was the biggest hurdle that you faced during your/your significant other’s first deployment? submitted by The Pavlik Perspective
Well, not much.  We were living in other states at the time, so the deployment wasn't that big of a change for us.  I was only able to send one family gram (holy cow, remember those?), and the only other communication was if he called me during a port call, so I suppose the lack of communication was the biggest hurdle.  This past deployment was the hardest, though- there were many things going on that I needed him and only him for.  I ended up leaning on the CO's wife, my neighbor, and my family for those times, but it was extremely difficult to need him and know that I couldn't even tell him what was going on.
