What's going on

A few things have been going on around here. Hubby and I took the boys to the outlets yesterday. I was the audience to a firm announcement that we will NOT spend any money. We were just there to look.

Mmmm hmmmm.....

Hubby ended up falling in love with a RL blazer, and we bought several golfing shirts. Eighty percent off is just too good a deal, but what I think is funny is that he was totally first to break that rule! :) Usually it's me!

I wasn't in the mood to try on clothes. I'm at a tweener size- not quite one size, but not quite the next one. Somewhere in between. And it's very frustrating. AND, I'm sure the vanilla-ginger-pear crumble I made didn't help... or the brownies I made this afternoon. :P

Anyway, after the outlets, we stopped briefly at home for lunch, then went "just to look" at a new mattress.

Mmmm hmmmmm......

We ended up buying a Tempurpedic! Our current mattress has been giving Hubby neck issues, and exacerbating my SPD. We really wanted a Tempurpedic, but didn't think it would be wise to spend the money. However, once we tried it out, we just couldn't resist. It's being delivered this afternoon, so finally we will get a restful night's sleep! With our old mattress, we ended up smushed in the middle. Laying on either side felt like an uphill battle to keep out of each other's way. Now, we will both sleep well and hopefully feel better.

I have to laugh whenever Hubby says "we're not going to buy anything", because that usually means we will. I consider myself to be somewhat of a spender, but he's way more of one. I tallied up our spending over the past two weeks, and (not counting bills, gas, or groceries) he spent five times as much as I did! LOL

So last night, after the mattress purchase and paying bills and calculating our finances, I gave him the "we're not going to buy anything frivolous" speech. Very ironic.

Don't hate me for saying this

Are the Winter Olympics on? Is it really February? Are my friends and family really getting snowed in every week for the past few months?

To me, it doesn't seem like winter. The cloudy, cold days here are in the 50s. The warm, sunny days are in the 60s, and sometimes up into the low 70s. It's a nice climate, kinda like NH in the fall. Beautiful during the day, cold at night.

BUT... it's February. Where's the snow? Apparently, this area doesn't get snow, much like HI didn't. I know I'm probably going to get crap for saying this, but I miss it. I really like skiing and getting snowed it, and sometimes it's even an adventure to lose power. No tv, no internet, just board games and flashlights.

This is my 3rd winter now with no snow, although the VA one only had a flurry or two, so I guess that doesn't really count... and the one before that was SC, which didn't get snow... so I guess I haven't seen a snowy winter since 2004 in OH. And I'm getting antsy for it.

I suppose next one will be the last one, though. After we leave CA, we're headed for CT for a bit, then possibly WA or CT, which are two states that definitely get some of the white stuff. I guess I just have to suck it up and enjoy it... cuz you know I'll be bitching about it when I get back to it! :)

*Sidenote: One should not type while exhausted... I caught two grammar errors, doh! And don't ask a mother of a toddler and infant why she's exhausted- you will receive The Evil Stare of Death.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

Now that I'm not such an unsanitary idiot about my computer, I can do this again.

I'm Skyping tomorrow with my parents. They are in Hilton Head visiting my Gma. It blew her mind that we could talk and see each other on computers. Makes me think what's in store when I get to be her age, and the boys come to visit... "Mom, you can totally teleport now! Get on board!" "When I was your age, we have to drive to visit people... and cars took gasoline!" I can just imagine this conversation...

Visited Frau's chiropractor in SD this past weekend. Can't believe I didn't go to one sooner. Turns out, I have Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. Sounds creepy, and it is. Pretty much, my bones down there are out of whack and the joint is rubbing the wrong way. Makes me walk funny and have intense, shooting pain just where any lady wouldn't want pain, nah'mean? Thank you childbirth... another reason I hated being preggo. Chiropractor helped tremendously. Now just have to find one here.

How can a 2 year old being so angelic and cute one minute, then turn into the spawn of the devil the next?

Came home from SD to a wicked clean house, artwork on the wall, and a trip to Spain. Thank you, Hubby! :)

Going 85 mph on the highway will take off a few minutes per hour on a trip, but being stuck in stop-and-go traffic will tack on about a half hour. So unfair.

Saw Valentine's Day on V-Day. So cliche, I know. But it was actually a funnier, less sappy movie than I thought it would be. Pleasantly surprised.

Potty-training starts next month for LB, and sleeping through the night for JC... holy crap... please pardon my bitchiness and general off-the-wall ranting until these milestones have gone by.

I'm back, in more ways than one.

Just a quick post to let you know I haven't fallen off the face of the planet. The boys and I went to San Diego to visit some friends for a few days, and when we got back, the new cooling fan for my PC was waiting. I unscrewed the laptop to install it... only to find a HUGE dust bunny wedged in the cooling fan. I pulled out all the crap, then thought I should restart it, just to see if that's all that was needed. And sure enough, it started right up.

So now I feel bad because 1) I bought a cooling fan that I now don't need and have to return, and 2) my computer was so dirty that it stopped working. It was like it was saying, "Um, hello, I'm five years old and you've never cleaned out the dust. Thanks, biatch, I'm going to shut down until you do so."

Sorry, laptop, I'm stupid and I apologize. But, this does mean that we're even, and now you have to go back to being an inferior piece of technology!

Well, the good news just keeps coming...

My temporary crown fell off today. No, not like a shiny, glittery thing that sits on my head. More like the fake tooth that was cemented in the front of my smile so I don't look like I'm from South Carolina. Sorry if I offended anyone.... but not really.

It became loose the night it was put on, and I've had to deal with it for a week and a half now. The permanent one gets put on Tuesday, but this morning it just went to hell. First, it came off, then this afternoon, I realized that a piece of the back of it had broken off. I bought some Fixodent, but I can still feel that piece missing. At least I don't LOOK hill-billy, though.

As I came home from the store with my denture paste (seriously, how old am I???), I found we had gotten a check from Forest City. We were supposed to get it in December, but the check was "lost". I use quotes because I'm not positive they even sent it. Then, after I opened the envelope, I realized it was $600 short. *sigh*

Also, JC is cutting his first teeth, which is exciting, but makes him cranky and frustrating. I suppose I should try to see the silver lining here- Hubby sent me to the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm yesterday, and when I came home, there were roses and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for me with a Valentine's Day card. Very sweet! I definitely wasn't expecting that, since we have plans for V Day night (dinner and movie). And the ProAm was awesome- I saw a ton of golfers and celebrities, right next to me. I managed to get a prime location and could have reached out and grabbed Josh Duhamel's butt them, but I didn't. :)

So, I guess this is just a yin/yang kind of week. Lots of good stuff, lots of bad stuff.

#@$%#$!#$!

Well, my computer crapped out again. This time, it's the cooling fan. I've heard from computer-genius friends of mine that they've never had this kind of thing happen to a laptop. Well, of course, because only stupid crap happens to me.

So, new cooling fan is on order. Until then, my posting will be scarce. But hopefully when I return, I'll have a new smile to show off. Ah, I love spending money on stuff I don't WANT to spend money on...

The tantrum heard 'round the library.

I took LB and JC to the library this morning for story time. I had taken LB in HI, and I thought this might also be a good opportunity to meet some other parents and have conversations that don't include "poo poo" or "pee pee".

That was a BUST. LB lasted about ten minutes, which consisted of me leaving JC in his carseat and chasing LB away from the computers. The theme was birds, and they had this live, tropical bird, flapping its wings and squawking, right next to LB. But he didn't notice because he was too busy banging on the keyboard and kicking strangers. One lady tried helping me out by pointing out to LB that they were reading a story, but he kicked her. They sang a name song, which LB loved, but once that was over, the devil just appeared, and we ended up leaving very quickly. He was banging his head on the ground, screaming, flailing his arms and legs.... I felt like That Mom.

I was so incredibly angry with the whole thing that I buckled him into his carseat and proceeded to rip him a new one. I've never actually yelled at LB like I did this morning, and I'm sure he didn't comprehend it all, but the tone of my voice alone was enough to quiet him down. He whimpered a little, but I said "no, you don't get to cry- YOUR behavior is why we are leaving", and I didn't hear a peep from him since. I was very riled up, so I took a long drive, and on the way home, realized both kids were sleeping. At 11:30am. Sheesh. For a kid who doesn't think he needs naps any more, he sure passed out early.

Hubby was off hiking with a friend of his, so I let it all out when he got back. Right now, JC is napping and LB is out in the garage with Hubby. Fine with me- I'm still very angry about the way he acted. Any chance of me making friends at the library has flown out the window- definitely NOT the first impression I wanted to make.

I should have known better. LB was being bratty all morning, knocking down the baby gates, screaming at me, not listening well.... Bad morning. Already had two glasses of wine and an entire carton of Dibs ice cream thingies, and it's only 2pm.
