You know what's AWESOME????

Someone else's poop under your fingernails.

Your toddler kneeing you in the thigh the day after doing about a hundred squats and lunges at the gym.

Your eardrums literally shaking inside your head from high-pitched screams done purely for fun.

A headache that wasn't there when you woke up, but is raging now.

Having your monthly lady moment for over ten days.

Living in the state of delusion. Must be fun.

Dropping something you need down the steep mountainside that is your backyard, and having to hike your sore legs down there to get it.

Dirty kitchen floors, no matter how often I clean them.

Children who cry because they're hungry, but won't eat anything.

Picking up a brand new, opened box of cereal upside down, and watching half the box spill onto the floor, therefore wasting $2 worth of breakfast food.

*In case you haven't noticed, the previous list was laden with sarcasm. And since I suppose I should give you something actually positive to read (for a change), here are some things that really are awesome.

The end of heat waves. Sunnny, cool days are wicked good.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I don't care if LB's watched it for two hours, at least he isn't poking JC in the eye repeatedly.

My whole family and GA. The most normal people on the planet.

Impromptu back rubs from the Hubby.

Longer nights, courtesy of the changing seasons. It's nice when the boys wake up at dawn and it's not 6am.

A healed pelvis. I think I'm finally there.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

The forecast today: 100 degrees. I wish I was joking.

Up at 5:30am for some gym time. School's back in session, so that means my workouts are as well.

I want these so badly! But we already have stockings, so it's frivolous... but they're so cute!

Christmas vaca is coming up soon. It's hard to believe Hubby still has another semester until then, because time is really going quickly. I've been going a little nuts with visions of sugarplums and cava. Can't wait!

I've been having the most horrible, strange dreams lately. Last night, I woke up no less than five times. Don't know what's up with that, but I wish that for once since the boys were born I could sleep soundly. Haven't done that since... college?

Hubby and I have date night this weekend... at home. We're probably going to make apple butter. Wow, we're friggin homebodies. :)

How do you baby-proof kitchen cabinets if you can't drill locks into them? And if you can, how to do you keep a one year old out when the two year old can undo the locks? Right now, much of our kitchen supplies are jammed into the upper cabinets... and in the time it took for me to use the bathroom, JC unrolled half a tube of saran wrap.

I'll be doing a new class at the gym on Fridays called body pump. It's a weight-lifting class- I did a similar one in HI and loved it. For some reason, I thought they offered it this morning, but on Tuesdays they have body combat. Kinda cheesy kickboxing stuff... I'm not into that. If I'm throwing punches and kicks, I want it to be at a person.

Homegrown tomatoes are sooooo good!

Okay, call me stupid or whatever, but I don't get the subscribe feature on blogspot. Or the follow feature. Maybe I'm just not tech-savvy, but don't take offense if I don't use it- I just don't get it. :)

A shift in seasons?

It's late September, and it was 96 degrees here. Yesterday was just as sweltering, and the heat is supposed to last through midweek.

Um, isn't it fall? Aren't I supposed to be in sweatshirts while watching football, not shorts and a tank? The kicker is, all summer I was in sweatshirts. It was definitely not hot, and now that fall is officially here, summer decides to make an appearance.

Not liking that.

The weekend was fun, though. We took the boys to the pool today, and we even got a sitter for last night. Took in some live blues, then wandered around downtown Carmel. Very relaxing... 'specially with the margaritas. :)

I just don't get it. I know that every area has different weather, but it seems like spring lasted fooooorrrreeevvveerrrr, and it doesn't seem right for summer to finally get here. I'm over it. I'm ready to just skip the heat and move right along to fall.

At least there's a change of season. One thing that bothered me in Hawaii was that it was perpetually summer. Doesn't sound bad to most people, but I love the fall. And Christmas with the AC on was just weird. I guess I'm just stuck in my northeast ways, or maybe I'm homesick for NH, but I don't get this whole west coast stuff.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in #14

1.What characteristic about yourself has either been strengthened or weakened due to your experience as a Military Spouse? (from The Albrecht Squad)
I've realized that if I'm not being proactive, then I won't get what I want. So I've become a little more bitchy outspoken, especially to doctors.

2.What is your favorite vacation spot and why? (from ‘Tis the Life of the Army Wife)
I'm hesitant to put it down, because I don't want it to become a hot spot for tourism, but I love love love Squam Lake in NH.

3.If you could have any fast-food restaurant in the food court on base/post what would you pick? (from The Only Pink in a House of Blue)
DUNKS! Oh man, I miss everything about that place. I can't believe we had five within a five mile radius from my parents' house, and I didn't appreciate it more.

4.Where did you go on your honeymoon? (from Pennies from Heaven)
Cruise to the Bahamas through Hurricane Charlie. It was adventurous. :)

5.If you could have any job in the world regardless of money, degree or experience, which job would you have and why? (from Proud to Be a Navy Family and The Calm Before The Storm)
The only reason I would take a job is for the money. If I have to be separated from my family during the day, I'd better get paid for it! But Samantha Brown's job seems like the shiznit. I could take everyone with me and explore different cities, countries, and cultures. And get paid.... Wow, I hate her. :)

OMG, my FB is MIA!!!!

Facebook is experiencing an outage today. I've heard so many complaints about this, but I think this may be a good thing.

Omg, now we'll have to *gasp* actually talk to someone to find out what they're up to! Noooooo!

Although I'm an admitted Facebook addict, this little break is good, people. We're getting too wrapped up in our virtual world and not paying enough attention to the real world. Unless this already exists and I'm just ill-informed, I think we should have a Facebook Free Week.

Think you could do it?

Let me tell you, that would be hard for me. I have friends all over the country, and some in other countries. There are people I have befriended that I honestly didn't think I'd ever see again. And I'm not saying to ditch Facebook entirely- it definitely has a place in the modern world of communication and technology. I'm just saying that maybe we should all step away for a little while.

I know I've been more productive today (well, uh, except for wasting time typing this). The kitchen is clean, the boys are well-fed and entertained, the laundry is done, I called my mom, etc. Perhaps we should all have a few days like this, so we can really appreciate Facebook and remember what it's here for: to keep up to date with people in our lives, not to keep up to the minute. Really, no one needs to log into Facebook twenty times a day (*ahem*)- there aren't that many things going on. Life goes on, in or out of Facebook. Let's get to living it!

My breaking point

Tonight, I found my breaking point.

The boys were driving me to the end of my rope this afternoon. JC cried all day about everything. He clung to me constantly, pulling my pant legs down, yanking my hair out, getting fingerprints all over my glasses, etc. When I picked him up, he wanted to be let down. When I put him down, he screamed. His brother was constantly beating up on him, as evident by the bruise on his chin.

But LB.... oh, LB.... I've never been so close to actually beating the crap out of my kids. I couldn't take it any more and put them to bed at 6:15. LB just reminded me of the immature psychological torture kids do to each other. He would repeat everything I said. When I asked him a question, like "do you need to go pee-pee?", he would say "need to go pee-pee?" or "huh?". He didn't answer a single question I asked him the whole day. There were a few moments where I was cleaning up a puddle of pee while he sat on the potty. Once he got off the potty, he promptly peed on the floor in another spot. I hadn't even finished the previous mess. He kept hitting me and hitting JC, touching things he shouldn't, getting in my face (like, nose to nose), climbing on top of me... I just couldn't get any space or any time without some grubby hand touching me. LB didn't care to pee on the potty and didn't care if he peed on the floor.

The whole afternoon beat me down and when Hubby called this evening, I just bursted into tears. We agreed that LB isn't ready for the potty, which I knew all along. I told him that I feel pressured by him to potty train LB, but thankfully he said that clearly LB isn't ready, so there's no need to put myself through this.

So, back to diapers. We're going to wait until the new year to try again. Unless, by some miracle, LB asks for underwear. Hah.

Unrandom Tuesday Thoughts

Usually, I participate in this meme courtesy of The Unmom. If you don't already, head on over, check it out, and participate. Fun times. However, this particular Tuesday, my thoughts are not random at all and centered around one particular event: potty training. I tried to think of random stuff... which kind of defeats the purpose, so here's my bitch session about the wonderfulness of teaching kids to use the potty.

LB is on day 2 of PT. He still won't go voluntarily, and he'll still watch himself pee all over the place, but at least he knows he gets two M&Ms if he sits on the potty (what? I'm totally not above bribing him at this point).

So far, we've gone through six pairs of underwear and many more towels to clean up. He really does like cleaning up, and says "Uh oh, accident!", then takes the nearest towel to the mess (which, unfortunately, has been my nice kitchen towels... they are now out of reach).

Personally, I'm trying to stay patient and not get too worked up over the messes. After all, he's gotta learn sometime. Copious amounts of rum has helped, though.

I just don't know if I should stick with it. I hear of all these stories from other moms that their kids just wanted to go to the potty- LB lacks the desire to go. So should I stop or keep going? Am I going to associate potty time with a sense of stress and frustation for him? Is this whole experience going to negatively affect him if I push him when he's not ready?

Holy crap, I'm not so sure I want his psychological health to depend on my potty training expertise (or lack thereof).

When I was house training Puppy (and please don't hate me for comparing my kid to my dog), it took a little while, but once I started to see him going, I picked him up and took him outside to his potty place. He got a treat for going. Uhhh, I've been kinda doing the same with LB, except if I pick him up to put him on the potty, he freaks and kicks me and throws a hysterical fit.

So my whole day has been encompassed with PT thoughts, if he's ready, if I'm doing it right, if it's normal for him to say he doesn't have to go, then promptly piss on the floor... It's just frustrating.

But here are a few tips I've learned in these two long days:

*Don't try this when you're PMSing. It's just a bad situation for all involved.

*Don't try this when your husband is on a business trip. Not only do I have to deal with PT, I also have to deal with "Where's Daddy? I want Daddy hugs and kisses!"

*Do stock up on some alcohol. You'll need it at the end (or middle?) of the day.

*If you're a high strung, low patience person, you're gonna have to change. This just can't be done without a HUGE amount of patience.

*SIGH* Anyone want to pick out a hair color for me? I can feel my hair turning gray....
