Milspouse Friday Fill-in #59

  1. My favorite thing that happened this week was baking an apple pie.
  2. Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you’ll have an annoying penny in your pocket that you can't use.  Really, who uses pennies any more?.
  3. Autumn is officially here and my favorite part of the season is EVERYTHING- apples, pumpkins, squash, hay bales, corn, Halloween, pies, slow cookers, changing leaves, crisp air, etc.
  4. One of the things I’d like to do before winter arrives is clean the exterior of our windows.  Do you have to take the screens down for the winter??  Hubby and I are divided on this.
  5. I would be willing to participate in MilSpouse Secret Santa. (sorry folks, just trying to get an idea here on how many would participate)

Enlighten me please... why would one remove the screens for winter? I don't think I've ever heard of that!

My parents always took their screens down for the winter. Something about the snow & ice building up on them?... I guess I'd rather not, since we are PCSing in March, and the last thing I want to do during a New England winter is freeze my @$$ off outside putting screens back in.

Mmm apple pie! And no, I've never taken screen downs... but I was born and raised in Southern California, so my opinion probably doesn't matter.

Huh - you learn something new every day, don't you? :-) I had never heard the screens thing, but I wonder if it's because I've always lived in south except for a brief stint at Scott AFB. We lived in base housing there so I'm sure they would have done any weather proofing necessary.

The screen issue is interesting but only because I live in northern California and I don't think we do that. It doesn't get snowy cold here. When we lived in an apartment complex in Georgia, we'd get fliers about how we had to open the cupboards under the sinks and run a slow drip through the faucets all night. I remember not wanting to do it because it would be wasting water, lol!

Yup, our base housing has little signs (complete with a visual of a dripping faucet!) that they'll put out front every day that it's supposed to dip below freezing.

This is NEW housing. Brand new. You'd think they would figure out how to insulate a pipe by now, wouldn't you??
