I love this! One of my good friends was a comp lit major and she always always overanalyzed and took the fun out of books for me. I once told her that I was going to write a book where nothing was symbolic and everything was exactly what it said was so when she tried to interpret it, I could say with 100% certainty that she was wrong ;)
Ah, then you would truly have enjoyed my English 300 class ... I had to write a 30 page paper on a Hemingway short story (2 pages) and analyze EVERY fucking metahpor in the book.
I was pulling shit out of my ass to try and get to 30 pages. Thankfully, professor wanted us to use Courier New font size 12 double spaced; without those ridiculous 1'' margins all the way across.

I always hated english class because of this. so true...
