Owie. Hubby and I recently bought new mountain bikes (thank you, tax return), and for the first time, I went off-road. Well, I've been off-road before, but in my street bike when I was a kid. Not exactly the best situation. This time, I had the right bike and gear and all.
Let me tell you, those pants with the padded butt that makes you feel like you're wearing a diaper??? AWESOME. I definitely would have had a lousy time without them! And, they're slimming, bonus!
I made one rookie mistake, though. Coming downhill way too fast on smushy sand, I skidded the back wheel out. Desperate to gain some traction, I went off the trail into the grass, where I (thankfully) stopped short of a large bush. However, my body didn't get the memo, since I slid right off the seat and onto the bar of the frame.
YOWCH!! I am now sporting a lovely bruise the shade of indigo and olive green in a place I'd rather not have bruised ever.
This just also happens to be the spot where my pelvis fractured last year. Fortunately, thanks to a lot of padding in the pants, I don't think I did any damage to the bone, but holy sh!t, I'm still limping around like I did last year.
It was a good time overall. I went out for a few hours around a defunct Army base. Somehow, I ended up in a former munitions area... I didn't see any signs for it until I was leaving the area. Oops. Glad I wasn't blown up. Time away from the kiddos was nice- I didn't have to listen to whining and someone pulling my pants down (can't wait until JC outgrows that one). And when I got home, the house was empty, since Hubby had taken them out to run errands. A quiet house to shower in peace?? It was almost like winning the lottery.
I think mountain biking will be a regular weekend activity for me, not because I'm in love with it, but because I'm in love with being by myself for a few hours. Does that sound anti-social and hermit-like? Maybe, but it's good for my sanity. It just might not be good for my hoo-ha.

Plow Guy Boogaloo
So, some of you might know of this group, Super Secret Project. They have been writing songs and making videos of epic proportions, and they are wicked funny. The lead singer is a guy I went to high school with, which makes watching his stuff all that much more cool for me!
They have a new song out, Plow Guy Boogaloo. Even if you're not from the 603, you should check it out (and all their other non-NH-related stuff) because it rocks!
I may have to petition SNL to have these guys on their show. Seriously, get a NHer to host (Adam Sandler?? Sarah Silverman??) and the SSP as the musical guest... that would be awesome. :)

Milspouse Friday Fill-in #30
- What is your favorite MilSpouse blog (not including Wife of a Sailor who we all love, or your own)? submitted by Our Crazy Life
Definitely Just A Geek Named Jess because she's awesome. I really love all of the milspouse blogs that are listed to the right, or they wouldn't be on there! :) Let me know if you're awesome (or if someone you know is awesome), and I'll add you- I'm terrible about updating that sidebar, so if I left someone off, I apologize! PS, I don't get the "follow" feature, so I'm sorry if I haven't been using that, either. I'm just technologically braindead. - What are your favorite perks about your s/o being deployed (we all know there are perks)? submitted by Ramblings of a Marine Wife
Less laundry. Oh, how I hate all the laundry I do on shore duty! Come to think of it, less chores in general... it's amazing how messy one man can be.... And to think, someday I'll be living with three men... I need to go throw up now.
- How long did you date your
before getting engaged? Married? submitted by Utterly Chaotic
We dated for just under 5 years, married just after our sixth dating anniversary. It wasn't until we moved in together that we got engaged officially (I was still finishing up myworthlessbachelor's degree), but we knew we were going to get married after dating for about three years.
- What do you think your
would do if s/he wasn’t in the military? submitted by Adventures of M-Squared I really have no idea. Hubby is the poster boy for how successful you can be if you take advantage of everything the Navy has to offer. Because of the Navy, he went to college (and accomplished a lot of other kickass stuff). Without the Navy, he might still be working for ADT, but who knows? Of course, if he wasn't in the military, we probably would never have met!
- If you could talk to the Secretary of (fill in your appropriate branch) what is one suggestion you would like to bring to their attention in order to improve the lives of military families? submitted by My Life as His (Air Force) Wife
Oh wow, tough question!! I honestly don't know. My first instinct was to say "timely orders", since Hubby is four months out from graduation and we still don't have orders. But that only applies to us right now... Hm... I think, given the circumstances, the Navy does a good job of doing what they can to improve the lives of military families. I've never had a problem that was a direct result from, or could be fixed only by, the Secretary of the Navy.

It's t-shirt tiiiiime!
Thursdays! That means, Jersey Shore, woooot!! OH YEAH, JERSEY SHORE, YEAH!!
This week, I'm more excited than usual. I think it's the cold, dreary, rainy weather we've been having. I know the show was filmed during the summer, so I'm looking forward to seeing flip flops (or nasty fuzzy slippers.... Snookie, I'm talking to you) and wife beaters. Yuck, I hate the term wife beater. Can't we just rename them "guido creepers"??
Anyway, the rain sucks. I wouldn't mind if it were warmer, but cold rain is just terrible. And I wouldn't mind if it were colder- yes, I'm crazy, but hear me out- because at least we could take the boys sledding or make snowmen and stuff. This in-between weather, where it's too cold to do anything outside that doesn't involved snow but it's too warm to actually snow, is so gross. I should get used to it, if we're looking at WA for our next sea duty station.
How 'bout that teacher in PA, ripping on her students online, huh? I totally sympathize with her... although she should have been smart enough to make that stuff private. I guess the first amendment was unofficially revised as "freedom of speech, so long as the offending party doesn't know about it".
Speaking of high school aged students, my forehead is breaking out like a hormone-imbalanced freshman. WTF, Mother Nature, I'm 30. Shouldn't this be done and done?
I blame stress from Internet Explorer because.... well, it was too much like Jersey Shore. Lack of communication skills, major meltdowns, and probably some viruses thrown in there (ew). I'm on Firefox now. I know, cheating on my beloved Jersey Shore-esque internet program... the drama!
Hubby, I stole your sweatpants. You can wear my jeans, if you'd like... although The Unmom pointed out that Levis made this atrocity (eyes.... burning.... can't..... see..... manliness.... any more). And Hubby, if you buy these (which I'm 100% positive you won't), I will throw them out.
Speaking of ex-girlfriend, I'm curious to see what the Shore's like without Sammi. Watch it, biatches!! :)

RTT
It's time for Random Tuesday Thoughts, courtesy of The Unmom. Link up and play if you'd like. If not, then have fun making fun of my ramblings.
Draw a circle, a triangle, a square, a horizontal line, a vertical line, and a dot. Now add some details to each shape to make them into concrete pictures. Keep reading to find out what it means.
Dear Lady Gaga, "Alejandro" sounds like Ace of Base, and "Born This Way" sounds like Madonna. Stop ripping people off.
I upgraded the RAM in my laptop and felt like a fucking genius.
If Helen Keller had ESP, would you say she had a fourth sense?
I've cleaned up more messes this weekend than I'd care to. Do you think they'll miraculously clean themselves if I look the other way?
I have no idea what's going on in Egypt. Something about an old guy in power and Google. Please enlighten me.
The forecast: rain all week. The weather right now: warm and sunny. Whiskey tango foxtrot?
Folgers is looking for a new jingle. I might try my hand at this, but only if I get a break between cleaning up spilled sugar, foot lotion, and "paint", aka Desitin.
On a related note, either my sanity or my children will survive this week, but not both. I'll either be thrown in jail for auctioning them on Ebay, or thrown in a loony bin for hallucinating a clean house.
The pictures you drew symbolize an aspect of your life. The circle represents how you see yourself; the triangle, how others see you; the square, your home; the horizontal line, what leisure is for you; the vertical line, your goal; and the dot, the way you see love. I tried to draw a bullseye for my dot, but it ended up looking like a boob. I suppose either one would have worked, haha.

I love YOU... No, I love YOU... No, I love you MORE... No, I love YOU more... *smooch smooch smooch*
Okay, so I'm not that disgustingly sappy this year.
But I'm really getting into the whole Valentine's Day stuff. Nothing too major, although Hubby did buy me Gucci Guilty, which I'd been drooling over since I smelled it in Spain. The boys got a few chocolates and heart-shaped Pez dispensers. They got me a box of chocolates (the good kind, not the ones with the icky, plasticky fruit fillings) and made a card, with the help of Hubby. Tonight, I'm making fettuccine alfredo with scallops (totally not vegan, but whatever, it's a holiday) and a salad & bruschetta. Plus, you know, alcohol, of course. *wink wink*
It's going to be a home-based V-Day. No restaurants, sitters, movies, bars, whatever. Just us at home. Sounds boring, but I'm pretty glad that's the way it is! After several years of sea duty, I could care less what we do together, just as long as we're together.
I have some friends who hate this holiday. There's even an Anti-V-Day party going on. And I do agree, it's purely Hallmark marketing and has nothing to do with anyone's love specifically. That's partly why we're being low-key. But it's a good excuse to get mushy and lovey-dovey, and that's never a bad thing to me & Hubby.
Just as long as we don't rub noses and stare longingly into each other's eyes. *gag*

P-BOs, as requested
1. Grease a 13 x 9 inch pan (I love my Pyrex one) with shortening or cooking spray.
2. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a large stockpot over medium heat. Add 1 bag of mini marshmallows (or big ones... I just say mini because that's what I used) and 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Stir until melted and blended well. Dump five cups of Cheerios and quickly stir.
3. As soon as the Cheerios are well-incorporated with the marshmallow / peanut butter mixture, quickly spread it evenly into the pre-greased pan. Using a silicone spatula that has also been greased makes it much easier. Let it cool before cutting them into squares.
I thought about adding craisins or M&Ms, which would make a nice addition, but the kids and the Hubby liked them just as they were. Have fun!
